Ray Leaning is an artist
specialising in sensual images of the female form. His
chosen media are pencil & conté on paper, and oil on
canvas. Recently he has begun to self-publish some of his
more popular paintings and sketches as limited edition and

Born in Lincolnshire, November '59. Ray graduated in Fine
Art Painting at Exeter College of Art in 1984. Early
influences were rock music, motorbikes, girls and comic book
art (Marvel & DC). Later everything from Impressionism
to Pop Art, Degas to Allen Jones, from the fashion scene to
the fetish scene, Mugler to Betty Page, from the romantic
realism of Leighton to the leather & latex of Bob Carlos
Clarke.
He briefly taught art in Brighton, tutored for the Open
College of Arts, and for a time ran a portraiture class on a
dedicated carriage on the 7.47am to London while commuting
to Soho where he worked as a Graphic Designer & Art
Editor in illustrated publishing. He spent seven years
living in London while working as a freelance Art Director
& Consultant, but now lives in Brighton with his partner,
children and a '76 Bonneville.
His work has been featured in: Cartier International Polo
Magazine, The Erotic Review, The Independent, SW magazine,
Penthouse, Ritual, Secret, Skin Two, Marquis, Forum, Desire
Magazine, and on several book covers.
