Born
in 1960, I am now the princely age of 43.
I grew up in Possilpark in Glasgow where I attended
Saracen Primary School and Possilpark Secondary School
until 1976.
I left possil in 1976 and headed off into the world to
earn my fortune, for some reason I still haven't managed
to earn it.
After bumming around in Glasgow's West End 'Bedsit Land'
and losing a couple of years through being a bit of a
hippy, I dusted myself off and went to Langside College
for 2 years 1980 - 1982 to do the qualifications I'm
afraid I didn't do at school.
1982 I got into Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen and
headed North for 4 years, graduating in 1986 with a Fine
Art BA ( hons ) in Drawing and Painting.
After returning to Glasgow via a short stay in Edinburgh,
I worked for a few years in the bar of the Tron Theatre,
and eventually decided to get myself a teaching
certificate.
I attended Moray House in Edinburgh 1989 -1990 and studied
for a Post Graduate Certificate in Education ( PGCE )
While in the early days of taking photographs I dabbled in
Black and White and spent the usual few years in the
darkroom, I now concentrate mostly on taking digital
photographs, having got caught up in the digital
revolution. I can't see that I would have developed
this much interest without the digital possibilities,
I really enjoy image manipulation, but also believe in the
purity of the first image, and try not to use photoshop to
enhance straight images,
preferring to try and get it right in the first place.
I have 3 cameras at the moment all Olympus, I started off
with the terrific little C860L but now use regularly the
C2100UZ ( or Uzi as Olympus owners have come to call it )
And for studio work I use the E10, an excellent prosumer
camera which copes very well with my current needs.
I hope to continue taking pictures for the forseeable
future, with the website updating with each new
development.
